Itinerary
DAY 1: Transfer to Fort Portal Town Visit Toro Kingdom Palace;
After your morning breakfast, we begin our journey from Kampala heading West for Fort portal Town driving through the countryside enjoying the beautiful scenery and tea plantations en route. Our enroute stop will be Mubende town for a quick snack and buying refreshments. Proceed to Fort Portal town for lunch. Fort Portal is a beautiful city with a number of tourist attractions. It was the base for early British colonialists in Uganda including Sir Gerald Herbert Portal (then British Consul General for British East Africa and British Special Commissioner to Uganda). Fort Gerry was built in this place to protect this region from external invaders at the time. The town was later renamed “Fort Portal”.
We shall drive through the Town and our first visit will be to the Toro kingdom palace and the other cultural sites around the town. Toro Kingdom is home to the world’s youngest king “Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru”. While at the palace, learn about the history of Toro kingdom’s traditional dress code, language spoken, the past kings and where they are buried as well as the numerous artifacts that represent their culture. You will also get to visit the Tooro Botanical Gardens and so much more the city has to offer. Later you will be transferred to your hotel for checking in, refresh yourself and later enjoy dinner and overnight.
DAY 2: Crater Lakes, Top of the World Experience, Bird Watching and Chimpanzee Tracking;
After an early breakfast, we can drive to Kibale Forest National Park for an Optional Chimpanzee tracking Experience. OR Visit Rweteera Village for a community and nature tour. Walk through the community as you watch beautiful wildlife, Interact with the local people and enjoy the scenery along the way.
Visit the different crater lakes, tea plantations and hike to the “Top of the world”, for a magical experience with incredible views of the distant horizons and Kibale Forest. This experience is comparable to none and very photogenic. Please carry your camera for amazing photos. You can opt for canoeing on the crater lakes. Continue exploring the region with a drive through Kibale Forest National Park and enjoying encounters with Baboons. Visit Bigodi town for another community experience. Visit the local women and see how they prepare coffee. Also, visit their crafts shops to see their works and possibly support them by buying some crafts. Also, visit the Bigodi Wetlands swamp for a Nature walk (known for bird watching) for incredible and rare flora and Fauna as well as plenty of birds, especially the Great blue Turaco and monkeys. Later drive back to your Hotel in Fort Portal Town for your dinner and overnight as above.
DAY 3: Transfer to Semuliki National Park for Game Viewing and Sempaya Hot Springs Visit;
After an early breakfast, Depart for Semuliki National Park for a game drive. The National Park is located in Bwamba County, Bundibugyo district. It is one of Uganda’s newest National parks at 219Km Sq. and the only lowland tropical rain forest in East Africa and one of the richest areas of Flora and Fauna diversity in Africa. While there, you will see animals like buffalos, warthogs, chimpanzees, monkeys and many bird and butterfly species. After the game drive, Take a long hour trail hike through the Monkey filled Forest where red-tailed, grey checked Mangabeys and black and white colobus monkeys are common, to the outer “Male”. A 30-minute hike through palm forest from the main road leads to the inner, “female” spring, dominated by a boiling geyser Spring boiling, gushing springs the Sempaya hot springs in a hot mineral encrusted swamp, while here cook your eggs and green plantain in the bubbling Waters and enjoy them. Later in the evening drive back to Fort Portal town and transfer back to your Hotel or Lodge for your dinner and overnight as above.
DAY 4: Visit Amabere Ga Nyinamwiru Caves and Drive Back To Kampala;
After breakfast, visit the Amabere Ga ‘Nyinamwiru Caves for Amazing Cultural, geographical and historical Experiences with the help of a local guide, you will trail down these rock caves, which were as a result of the formation of stalagmites and stalactites, named after Nyinamwiru, who was the daughter of the region’s ancient king, King Bukuku. Legend has it that these stunning rocks (Stalactites and Stalagmites) which have dripping water / Milky substance within are Nyinamwiru’s breasts. Enjoy the scenic and beautiful waterfalls at the Caves. After go for hiking along the Nyakasura hills that are a result of volcanic eruptions. You will hike around the hill up to the top for amazing views. You will also get to see swamps/wetlands; the crater lakes which are a result of volcanic eruptions providing you breathe taking views. After the hiking, you will descend down the hill to begin your journey back to Kampala with an en-route stop for lunch along the way either in Kyenjojo or Mubende Town as you enjoy the different scenery towns along the way.
